I don't have the words that can do Burt Bacharach justice but Hal David, Bob Hilliard and Carole Bayer Sager do. RIP Mr Bacharach.
"Please Stay" - The Drifters
"The Answer To Everything" - Joe Dolan
"I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" - Dusty Springfield
"Make It Easy On Yourself" - The Walker Brothers
"On My Own" - Patti Labelle & Michael McDonald
Saw someone describe him as the Pele of Pop
ReplyDeleteApart from the alliteration I'm not sure the analogy really works. Burt was rarely the front man banging in the goals, more the silky skilled genius setting them up for everyone else. If it has to be P maybe the Pirlo of Pop?
DeleteA superb selection of originals and covers, Ernie. I tried and failed to find the words, but the music speaks for itself, and it gave me a reason to post a cover version by Terry Hall which can only be a good thing. RIP Burt.
ReplyDeleteA great selection indeed. As some of the songs become over-familiar (in a nice way), there are plenty more to take their place. Chuck Jackson's Any Day Now is a new favourite of mine. RIP Burt.
