Rooms With Views

A little photography exhibition for you today. It's not a patch on any of JM's marvellous monthly spectaculars, but like them it does have a theme.

During the course of my travels for international espionage unspecified work and pleasure I have been lucky enough to stay in rooms that have views that might politely be described as unconventionally attractive. About ten years ago I started photographing them and posting them all on social media.

Last month I was in Belfast and racked up the 100th view of the series, so I thought I would mark the milestone by sharing some with you. We'll start with the view that brought up the century and follow it with some personal favourites from Paris, Guimaraes and Genoa respectively.

In the unlikely event you want to admire all 100 (now 101) you can find them over at Flickr.

  1. Were you in a prison cell in that last picture?

    1. A very nice AirBnB in the historical port district of Genoa. The views aren't necessarily a reflection of the quality of the accommodation.

  2. Not that it is very near to Guimarães, but if you are in or near Estremoz I can recommend a small hotel that has a fantastic view of the castle

  3. That's living alright; some real doozies in that lot.
Good feature btw, keep it up. It could catch on...

  4. Superb - love your Flickr page, really compelling, fab idea too, I wish I'd kept a record of some of my 'views'. But none of Sydney Opera House perhaps, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon nor herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...

    1. I had hoped for herds of wildebeest when I went to Lusaka but all I got was an office block that was still under construction.

  5. Lovely stuff Ernie. The flipside of the travelling dream.

  6. It's only the bad guys who get to stay in hollowed out volcanoes with testicle-burning laser beam tables as an add on, then?

    1. I have not spotted any Bond style contraptions in the places I've stayed unless you count the time the bidet was full of piranhas.
