The Boyd Is Back In Town

Some super smooth 70s soul sounds for you today, courtesy of Bobby Boyd. Both tracks come from his self-titled album, originally released in 1976 but reissued a few years ago by the Athens of the North label.

"Why Are You Cryin'" - Bobby Boyd

"Ain't What You Know" - Bobby Boyd

As the Scots and other sophisticates among you will have worked out, the Athens of the North label hails from Edinburgh. They are by no means the first folks from that fair city to have a bit of a thing about 'B' based alliteration.

  1. Boyd is not an oncommon name in Scotland.
    Ayrshire origins I think

    1. I think this particular Boyd is probably more New York than Newmilns. He was the original lead singer of what became the Lafayette Afro Rock Band, who were formed in Long Island.

    2. But you're right. When researching this post I discovered that the chief of the Clan Boyd is Baron Kilmarnock. I thought about featuring 'The Joyful Kilmarnock Blues' in the video, but that would have meant passing up an opportunity to irritate George.
