The observant among you will have spotted that it is now October. Here are a couple of bands - one Scottish, one Somali - who want to share with you their thoughts about the month ahead. The title of the second track translates as "What's October? It's Ours". For the first one you're on your own.
"October Song" - The Incredible String Band
"Oktoobar Waatee? Waa Taayadii" - Waaberi Band
I have belatedly realised that we never paid tribute to the month just gone. Let's put that right.

EWF's "September" always brings me joy. A great song by a great band. Ba de ya!
ReplyDelete"October Song" - the lyrics are pure poetry and Robin Williamson's vocal fitted the words perfectly.
The Waaberi Band track sounds familiar...
I know what you mean about the Waaberi Band. A lot of the Somali/ Ethiopian stuff from the 70s sounds like they are playing an old soul 45 that has got a bit warped
ReplyDeleteThat's it. It's the type of tune I remember being played on the waltzers at the carnival and it always sounded a bit out of whack.
DeleteTonight I'm going to gently steam the CD over the kettle, flatten it under a book, and see if that makes them sound less wonky. It always used to work for my corrugated vinyl way back when.
DeleteGiven the thankful demise of the month-songs on another blog are you initiating your own, and are suggestions welcomed?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't planning to, and if I started it would peter out in about December probably, but suggestions always welcome nonetheless
