Back To The Belfry

Bonny Light Horseman's self-titled debut album was quite possibly my favourite album of 2020 - there or thereabouts anyway. Their follow-up, "Rolling Golden Holy", is due out in just over six weeks, which is causing great excitement here in the Goggins household.

To tide us over until then we have a couple of tracks for you from Eric D. Johnson, one-third of BLH, in his Fruit Bats guise. There is one apiece from "Tripper" (2011) and "Gold Past Life" (2019). Both can be found on his/their Bandcamp site along with many other fine things.

In other news, starting later this week Mr Johnson as Fruit Bats is in the UK playing in Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds and London as well as a couple of festivals. Unfortunately I'm double booked the night he's in London so won't make it, but get along if you can.

"You're Too Weird" - Fruit Bats

"Mandy from Mohawk (Wherever You May Be)" - Fruit Bats

And here's a 20 minute set from 2016 for you.

  1. Great stuff, Ernie. I was introduced to Bonny Light Horseman either late 2020 or early 2021 after the debut had built up a head of steam and, like you, I found a lot to love.

My initial excitement at Fruit Bats playing in Bristol was dampened by it being on a Tuesday. Unfortunately, Lady K's active social life and reliance on Khayem's Kab service means that weekday gigs are very few and far in the foreseeable future.

The pain is exacerbated by the knowledge that fellow BLH Anais Mitchell is also playing live in Bristol in November...on a Monday.

On a positive note, I will get to see Katy J Pearson and Angel Olsen so I'm not complaining too much!

    1. Commiserations to you, and congratulations to Lady K on having such a dedicated driver. My reason for missing the London gig next Thursday is that I'm off to see Johnny Clarke that evening, but if anything happens to Johnny I'll be Fruit Batting

  2. I had the pleasure of introducing Mrs K to the sweet sounds of Johnny Clarke a couple of months ago. It was received very well and far more favourably than about 99% of the music I subject Family K to.

Fingers crossed that all is well with Johnny, it promises to be a great gig!
